The export value of Malaysian durian will reach US$ 34.7 M by the end of 2021, which is a 107% increase compared to the export value of US$ 16.8 M in 2017, according to Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries. The fast-increasing popularity of the Malaysian durian variety Musang King in China, the largest durian import market in the world, is the main drive. The Chinese increasing demands for durian has driven the global trade of durian to reach US$ 3B in 2020, and also make the fierce competition among Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and other durian producing countries in the shares in Chinese markets.
