China bans Thai longan over mealybugs (August 12-20)
On August 13, China banned Thai longans to import because of mealybugs contamination in Thai exporting longans. Fifty-six sorting and packaging companies with low pest infestations records were allowed by China to resume exporting Thai longan to China. For the other companies, they can resume the exportation of longans to China in the future if they prove that effective measures to screen out the pests have been implemented. The Cambodian longan industry was also affected, because large share of its longans were exported to China via Thailand. Purchase supports for smaller longan farmers would be executed by Cambodian governments.
