Mangosteen price triples, 20,000 tons sold under new domestic strategy (August 11)
The price for Thai mangosteen per kilo has risen from 4-5 baht (0.12-0.15 USD) to 13-15 baht (0.40-0.46 USD) after the Fruit Board adjusted its fruit management strategy to domestic consumption rather than COVID-hit exports, helping release 20,000 tons of mangosteen to the market and save the low price. According to the Commerce Ministry from Thailand, the lockdown measures due to worse COVID-19 situation impacted the Thai fruit exports to China, Vietnam, and Laos, combined with the container shortage, the prices of mangosteen remained low in July.
