Fortune favours dragon fruit farmers in Rajshahi

Dragon fruit cultivation has become more popular in Bangladesh in recent years as a lucrative cash crop that has been improving the fortunes of many farmers in the Rajshahi region, and the vast Barind tract. Many farmers have developed as successful entrepreneurs through dragon fruit production in the area. The harvest season of dragon fruits in the region is from June to November, and each plant can produce 20-25 fruits for each season. According to Sirajul Islam, Additional Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the planting area of dragon fruit is over 260 bighas in the Barind area. The fruit is new in Bangladesh, but there is a growing demand.
