Dragon Fruit Info
Dragon fruit is making its way to terraces and home gardens in Kerala (September 8)
Dragon fruit production in India was rapidly increased to 12,000 MT and planting area over 3,000-4,000 hectares in 2020, compared to an area growth from 4 ha to 400 ha between 2005 and 2017, according to a bulletin published by ICAR-National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management (NIASM) in 2020. In Kerala State, besides the commercial cultivation, the number of dragon fruits being planted in households is going up. Appearance, low maintenance inputs, multiple harvests in a year, long lifespan of around 20 years, good market, and reasonable profits are the reasons for the trend. Several local planting techniques are introduced in this news.
